About

Portrait of the founder of Osér Clair

Lola Lozano

I have trained as a scientist for the last 10 years. I completed my undergraduate training in neuroscience at the University of Arizona Honors College. I defended my doctoral thesis work in genetics at the University of Iowa. After completing my training in the next two years, I will be conferred both MD and PhD degrees.

During my training, I noticed how short medical appointments are and and how patients don't always know what questions to ask to make the most of their healthcare visits.

I started Osér Clair to help patients understand their health and what diagnostic and treatment options are available to them in hopes that they can get more out of their medical appointments and help them share their health and life goals with their healthcare teams.

Working one-on-one with clients I teach them to interpret biomedical studies and avoid the perils of misinformation. Knowledge is power. As client's Personal Healthcare Strategist & Medical Researcher, I aim to empower clients to make decisions about their health with clarity and confidence.

Who this is for

Some clients come to me the week after a hard diagnosis. Others come because they get twelve minutes with their doctor twice a year and would like to use them well. Both are exactly the right reason.

If something serious has happened

You will get everything published about your diagnosis, organised and sourced, with a question list for each of your doctors. The next conversation starts from information rather than from scratch.

If you simply want to understand

You will get the same rigour pointed at your own questions: what the evidence actually says, what is worth asking, and how to make a short appointment do a great deal more work.

What I do

Three ways of working together

The Research Dossier

An educational packet built around your reported diagnosis: what the current guidelines say, the published options with the evidence behind each, open trials with eligibility criteria reproduced from the registry, and questions grouped by which appointment to raise them in. Nothing ranked, nothing recommended.

We start with a conversation where you tell me everything — every question, every worry, everything there was never time to ask. From that I build a packet that is only yours, and you walk into your next appointment with it in hand.

Reading the Evidence

I walk you through how a medical study is built and how to read one.

Your doctor mentions a drug that "reduced progression by 40%." We go through what that number is a percentage of, whether "progression" meant a scan changed or a person felt different, how many people were in the study, how long it ran, and what they were compared against.

The Practical Layer

Goals you set, and the logistics around them — who to call, how to follow up, how to keep your records straight.

A second opinion out of state means records from three hospitals, an imaging disc, a pathology slide release, a referral, and a scheduler who hasn't called back in nine days. We map the whole sequence, and I tell you who to call and what to say when they pick up.

I chart the water before you're in it, I teach you to read it yourself, and I stay in the boat with you.

The conversations most people don't get to have

Urinary, genital, and sexual health — for men and for women.

Much of my training has been in the fields of urology and sexual medicine. I have spent years reading this literature and listening to doctors, to patients, and to people in my community talk about these concerns.

They are among the most common health problems there are, and among the least discussed. People wait years, then raise it in the last thirty seconds of an appointment, and go home with a two-sentence answer.

Bring any of it here — incontinence, pelvic pain, sexual function, recurrent infections, prostate concerns, fertility, menopause, changes after surgery or treatment. I will not flinch and I will not rush you. You get what you get everywhere else on this page: the published evidence in plain language, and questions to take to the right specialist. I am not a physician and this is not medical advice.

How I work

My method, in plain terms

I apply my same research methods for each client's unique dossier.

Every dossier names the databases searched, the exact search terms, and the criterion that decided what appears. Anything found and excluded is listed with the reason it was excluded.

You are never taking my word for it — your physicians can retrace every step.
